The number of overweight and obese people in America is expanding every year. The CDC reports that in 1988 56% of adults in America were overweight. In 2012 that number had jumped to 69%. The number of adults considered obese increased from 23% in 1988 to 35% in 2012.1
What is the difference between overweight and obese? A person who is overweight is 10-20% over their ideal weight for their height. A person who is obese is more than 20% over that target. A combination of unhealthy food and a sedentary lifestyle contribute to unhealthy weight. Fad diets do little to reduce the waistline. Diet-induced weight gain is common when a person jumps from one diet to the next.
